How did you find Springs
Salsa & Dance Fitness?
I met Dorie and Mark at a Turbo Kick
workshop. I had recently moved to Colorado Springs. They
told me about Springs Salsa & Dance Fitness. I went to the
Hip Hop Hustle instructor training at their studio.
I had attended Zumba classes at my previous
assignment and wanted to find a fun location to attend Zumba
here. I found the Zumba classes at Springs Salsa & Dance
Fitness are a lot more enjoyable than the other fitness
locations in Colorado Springs.
Why do you like the
studio?
The owners are very warm and receptive. The
instructors at Springs Salsa & Dance Fitness were very
friendly and encouraging. It’s totally different feeling
than a regular gym because it’s more welcoming and personal.
I really like that this studio has more opportunity to learn
different dance styles. The Zumba classes are so much fun
here! I have always wanted to learn Salsa dance and I have
a feeling I’ll be learning this too! I’ve tried both studio
locations and enjoyed each of them. The west side location
is very cute.
What’s your story?
Growing up I always enjoyed having fun doing
exercise. I was in track and field and a scuba club when I
was in college. Once I got married, I had my first baby.
It seemed like I didn’t have time for anything. The
challenges of military life, motherhood and marriage made it
real hard for me to stay healthy. When we moved to Italy, I
got pregnant again and wasn’t able to exercise for quite
some time. When we moved to Guam, I found out that my
Cholesterol level was way too high. I decided that I had to
do something about it. So I started practicing aerobic
exercise at home while I was taking care of my babies. Once
we moved to Okinawa and my kids were older, I started
attending aerobics at the base gym. This is where I first
attended Turbo Kick. It was like a spark went off inside
me. I loved it. I soon became addicted to Turbo Kick. I
really enjoyed the challenge of pushing myself as hard as I
could and sweating like crazy. It was very fun.
Eventually, I got to know the instructor and she talked me
into getting Turbo kick instructor certified. Before I knew
It, I was teaching my own classes, on and off base and
loving it! During that time, I picked up more
certifications in AFAA group instructor, Hip Hop Hustle
instructor, AFAA Indoor cycling and Piyo instructor.
About you…
I am 37 years old. I grew up in Okinawa
Japan. I am married to the love of my life and have two
great kids, which I adore. I have an incredibly
uncoordinated cat named Apa; which I also spoil. We have
traveled around a bit during his military career. I’ve
lived in Japan, Illinois, Italy, Guam, back to Japan and now
Colorado! I really enjoy studying about fitness and
nutrition. My Mom is a health food fanatic and some of that
rubbed off on me. I love to cook and eat different types of
food from many cultures!
