Studio Etiquette

Late Entry Policy
Please note if you arrive late to a Yoga or a YBB class, you will gain access to the class once the meditation segment has been completed.
Evening and Saturday classes DO fill up, *especially those indicated with an asterisk*. The best way to ensure a spot for any class is to arrive at least 20 minutes early.

Honor Your Body
PLEASE take the class that is most appropriate to your level. For example, Zumba Groove & Sculpt is taught at an advanced level and will not be modified for beginner or intermediate, please honor your level.

Chit Chat is Good but...
We love and encourage your excitement regarding our classes. Often times you will arrive to the studio while a Private Lesson or a YBB class is still in progress. We ask that you maintain delicate voices to a whisper on at these times to be courteous to your fellow students and honoring of our instructors.

Dance Fitness Class Descriptions
Tease 101:  Part of our "Inner Diva Series", this class puts The Bomb, back in Bombshell.  A Ladies Only class to teach you the art of being a bombshell who is confident and sexy!  Please wear clothing and accessories you feel sexy in…and DON’T forget your HEELS!  A great night out for the girls... this  class is flashy but not trashy.  HEELS, BOAS, SCARVES, GLOVES.  Check out the weekly theme on the calendar.
Body Beautiful Bellydancing:  A bellydance class that inspires you to shape your body using this ancient flowing dance.  In this class we will explore body movement such as hip drops, snake arms, hip twists, shimmies and more along with veil work and the use of finger cymbals/ziljans also called Zills to help you get "all the right moves".  This is part of our Happy Hour Dance Fitness series, starting at 5:30pm BAREFEET.
Candlelight Yoga:  Experience and explore your mind, body, and spirit with a classical Hatha Yoga practice that inspires you to seek, settle, and soften. An inviting practice based on the principles of Iyengar, all levels are welcome as you unwind into deep basic stretches and postures along with gentle flowing vinyasa sequences. BAREFEET.  BRING YOGA MAT.  YOGA MATS FOR RENT $2.
 
Combat Cardio Jam:  A fusion of martial arts, capoeira and dance to get you ready to punch, jab, and kick your way to a SEXY body!  This is part of our Happy Hour Dance Fitness series, starting at 5:30pm. SNEAKERS.
Hips 101:  A perfect class to teach the basics of hip, arm and head movement.   This is a great foundation for bellydance classes and can even assist the salsa dancer to improve her hip movement.  Ladies, your hips won't lie!  Veilwork in class. This is part of our Happy Hour Dance Fitness series, starting at 5:30pm BAREFEET.
Masala Bhangra:  A spicy dance fitness class that utilizes the hi-energy dance moves of the traditional folk dance Bhangra and the excitement of Bollywood to create a fun and celebration style experience.  A complete cardio dance class, Masala Bhangra can burn up to 500 calories providing overall toning and body conditioning as well as building stamina, endurance, and balance.  BAREFEET OR SNEAKERS.

RAGGA Dance Hall:  A choreography based dance fitness class that goes deep into the Reggaeton and RaggaJam beats.  This class is all heart and soul, funky, and hi-powered. SNEAKERS.
Yoga Booty Ballet: A dynamic fusion of Yoga, Dance and Ballet  this is a LIVE class of the popular infomercial DVD series. Created by women for women, this dance fitness craze is known as Hollywood’s Fun Fitness secret as you dance, slim and tone your body in a well rounded feel good workout. BAREFEET. BRING YOGA MAT.  YOGA MATS FOR RENT $2.
Yoga Booty Ballet Basics:  This class is a great start for those interested in learning the basic principles and technique of the YBB workout as it was designed.   This class is also perfect for those already taking our YBB classes, to fine tune the moves, grooves, poses and postures.  This class is great if you desire one on one attention. BAREFEET. BRING YOGA MAT.  YOGA MATS FOR RENT $2.
Yoga Booty Ballet Groove & Sculpt:   This class features all your signature YBB moves in a choreography setting as the flow and intensity builds, "kick your butt" muscular ballet, and Ashtanga yoga sequences.  A foundation in YBB is a must for this class. Zumba:  ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music - dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps. SNEAKERS.
Zumba Basics:  This is a very basic class featuring all the basic songs and steps of Zumba. SNEAKERS.
Zumba Beyond Basics:  This is a moderate to intense class that takes your basic steps to the next level using repetitive movement. SNEAKERS.
Zumba Groove & Sculpt:  This is a moderate to intense class that focuses on pure Zumba moves and transitions, choreography and the use of latin and international music to inspire our movement.  This class also tones the body with the signature Zumba dances moves and light weights.  You must reserve your spot on the dance floor to ensure you receive weights, click here.  Little to no verbal cues are used, hand cues are used, a foundation in Zumba a must for this class. Series/Session Descriptions
Costume Creation Workshop:  Whether you are looking to create your costume for Bellydance, Burlesque, Pole Dance or Salsa, develop your alter ego, or just come out and have a good time, this class is for you.  A liberating and empowering experience be ready to make it and model it.

Pole Dance 101:  A 5 Week Course for beginners.  Pole dancing is the latest trend in fitness innovation. Ladies Latin Styling:  Take your salsa dancing to a classy and sassy place as you learn how to develop your hand, arm, core, hip, legs, and spin styling.  This is a great class for those wishing to have an immersion into what it is like to dance like a diva on the salsa dance floor.  Please bring:  salsa dance shoes, dance sneakers, skirt and slacks. Salsa 101:  A 6-Week Course, this class is great for students who are looking to get started and learn Salsa or for students who already dance Salsa, but are now ready to learn technique. This is a 6 week series and teaches the student the basic steps, the cross body lead, basic turns for the male and female, all with an emphasis on coordination and timing. This class is progressive and does not accept drop in students. If you have miss the enrollment, please be courteous and enroll in the next series. This is a pre-requisite class prior to attending any other Salsa classes on our calendar. You may repeat this series if you need extra 101 training. DANCE SHOES OR HEELS
Salsa 102:  A 4-Week Course, this class is great for students who are looking to take their basic salsa dancing to the next level who have completed Salsa 101. This is a 4 week series and teaches the student the advanced basic variations on the Cross Body Lead and Turn Patterns and the introduction of Club Patterns. This class is progressive and does not accept drop in students. If you have miss the enrollment, please be courteous and enroll in the next series. All students must meet the following requirement: Successfully completed Salsa 101 :: Can successfully perform a cross body lead and simple right hand turns with an On2 or On1 timing with no hesitation. You may repeat this series if you need extra 102 training. IF YOU ARE AN ACTIVE SSDF STUDENT, PLEASE CONSULT WITH YOUR TEACHER TO PROGRESS TO THIS CLASS/IF YOU ARE NEW TO OUR STUDIO AND HAVE SALSA DANCING EXPERIENCE PLEASE CONSULT WITH DORIE OR MARK WEXLER PRIOR TO ENROLLING and review the following requirements above. We welcome all students to our classes, however, our studio follows and "honor your level and body" approach. We keep our students safe and joyful on the dance floor, therefore our salsa dancing focuses on social dancing etiquette and technique and progression.  DANCE SHOES OR HEELS

Salsa Frill & Drills: Learn how to get on the salsa beat in the drill oriented class.  Learn, explore, and dance to the highlighted beats of the music and develop your sense of styling in the dance.  This class is for current SSDF salsa students and is close to the public.  DANCE SHOES OR DANCE SNEAKERS.

5 WAYS TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR CLASSES

Be Consistent:  The more you attend classes on a regular basis the better you will become.  Remember, half of dancing is muscle memory.  By reinforcing the movements, your dancing will start to become more and more natural with each passing week.

Practice:  It's true practice makes perfect. but, sometimes it's hard to make time for it. Get yourself on a regular schedule with us. Use group classes as a supplement to your private lessons and vice versa. Private lessons are a great way to perfect the technique taught in the group classes. Practice is more enjoyable when it's with other people.

 Attend Social Events:  It's always easier to dance when the teacher is telling you what do next.  Practice parties and socials will give you a chance to fly solo.  Your repertoire will be reinforced when you have to think for yourself.

 Proper Footwear:  Believe it or not, the wrong shoes can hold you back.  Uncomfortable, stiff or sticky shoes can hinder your progress. Just as a carpenter works with tools, dance shoes should be in your tool box.

Enjoy the Process:  Dancing is a never ending quest for excellence.  Everyone learns at their own pace.  The important thing is to give yourself realistic goals and hone your craft without worrying about the outcome.  Most people when they look back in a month, six months, a year are amazed at how far they've come.
