How did you find Springs
Salsa & Dance Fitness?
My
husband and I moved from Fort Benning, Georgia to Fort
Carson, Colorado. Before we moved to the Springs, I started
to look for places that taught Salsa. The one place that
stood out above all others was Springs Salsa. I checked out
their videos and I thought “This place seems to have a
positive attitude and a style of dancing that seems so
different”, so as soon as we got to the Springs, I visited
the studio and met Dorie. She was so welcoming that I wanted
to start classes immediately.
Why do you like the studio?
Everything! The instructors are talented and inspire you to
work harder than any other place that I have been. The
installations are like a big city studio, I love that! The
welcoming atmosphere and that you feel free working out,
without worry if the person next to you is going to see if
you have the latest sneakers in the market. Also each
instructor brings their own personal skill and attitude
making Springs Salsa a melting pot and a true fitness and
dance studio.
What’s your story?
I
have always been really busy since graduating from college
and working as a marketing director for a major newspaper in
Mexico. I had no personal time until I got married and moved
to the States. My weekends were spent dancing salsa and
going to socials with my “Rumberos” in Mexico.
Dancing has always been my passion but unfortunately I just
had not time to pursue it. Once I moved to the states, my
routine changed completely from working 16 hours a day, to
being a stay home housewife. This led me to losing my
regular practice of dancing salsa and adding a couple of
pounds. Having no good places to work out where we used to
live, I spent most of the time wondering if one day I can
come back to my salsa dancing routines, where cross body
leads, drills and shines where always on my mind, and I kind
of gave up until we moved to Colorado Springs and I met
Dorie and Mark. They opened my eyes and my heart again to
the dance scene (and to being toned again). They helped me
realize that it’s never late to start working on your
passion.
About you…
I’m 28 years old and I was born and raised in Mexico, all
the way up north between Monterrey and Nuevo Laredo,
“norteña” til the bone. Yes, I’m 100% Mexican! I grew up
doing gymnastics, dancing jazz and ballet and I have been
dancing Salsa for almost 11 years. Mexico is not well known
for Salsa dancers, I was lucky to be part of the first group
of “Salseros”, this gave me the opportunity to come up with
routines, compete and perform with some of the most know
dancers in the country. I will never forget about my cumbia
texana, corridos, polkas, quebraditas…. But my passion has
always been Salsa!
I
have recently been introduced to Zumba and got my
Certification. My first class with Dorie was amazing! Being
able to work out by listening and dancing to Latin music
makes it so much fun and by the end of the class you only
want one thing: you want more!.
I’m married and I am in love with my husband and our dog,
Mia “the beagle” and I miss my family so much. Can’t wait to
have you in class and have fun doing some “shimmy”.
What I have to offer from years of dancing is an environment
where you as an individual can be free to dance and express
yourself. The pressure free and non competitive style of
Springs Salsa makes dancing so much fun and in the process
you will keep your body beautiful and fit. I look forward to
working directly with everyone.
